I hope your plan is never put into operation Barry or we go back at least
150 years and get ourselves horses. I think you are a supreme pessimist.
No light at the end of the tunnel for you?

That gas pipeline could be put in place in record time. You have not seen
the speed with which action is taken in our northwest. There are more gas
fields being opened up and seemingly unlimited supplies. Most of what we
produce in the way of gas, which in spite of all the pessimistic talk of
the dangers of storing and transporting compressed gas it has gone on for
years with no accidents or apparent danger. Most of it is exported to
China. If it is diverted to our eastern states then the WA and Australian
economy is in for a rough time with the loss of billions of dollars earned
by this state to the benefit of the eastern states. We are paying the bills
at present.

It seems to me that the long distance trucks are still running in ever
increasing numbers. The upgrading of railways could change that, if
Governments ever get round to upgrading our lines. Trolley buses are out
of the question in this state. The roads are too narrow. We had them years
ago and they were removed because they blocked the traffic. They are
confined to the area below the wires and can only move a short amount each
way.End of story.

Much of your plan competely overlooks the goegraphical situation in this
state. Railways? Where? All over a million square miles of this state? IN
your dreams! The existing lines only cover a small area in the south of
the state, and the only lines which have been maintained properly are the
Trans line, the line to Bunbury and the Metro lines. Rural railways are
almost a thing of the past. The only railways outside the metro are to be
built in this state were built by an iron ore company and a woodchip
company in Albany. The Mandurah to Perth line just completed cost over 2
billion dollars for a distance of less than 80 km.

Incidentally our railway stations in this state already have the car parks
and people are encouraged to park and rail. However there are some
problems;
(1) Violence at night on the railway stations with innocent people the
victims of thugs.
(2) Stealing of vehicles or else serious damage to them in the railway
carparks.

Don't tell me that only Perth has these problems. I noticed in the Sydney
city trains a notice warning night travellers to travel in the coach next
to the engine for their own safety.

I still believe that alternative fuels will be found. Man is an adaptable
animal and some means of fuel production will be found. The talk of
limited ladn is a nonsense. There are millions of unused acres in the
north of this state and abundant water in the rivers. The Australian Dry
does not exist up there. The Fitzroy River has enough water going through
there in the rainy season to fill Sydney Harbour several time a day.The
lunatic fringe can't keep nuclear power out of the equation for ever
either as they are doing at present.

Incidentally Albany is to get 6 more wind turbines which will increase our
wind power capacity to up to 90% of the city's requirements. This at least
is a forward move in spite of the furphies going round about oil leaks,
lack of wind etc., noen of which are in evidence so far. They tell us that
a new improved turbine is being used in the new ones with greater output.
No! I haven't seen them stop turning yet. I can see them every time I go
to town. They are clearly visible on the horizon. Power failures in this
city are almost non existent. Usually it is some idiot in his teens
carrying P plates running into a power pole in the city that causes our
rare blackouts. It also keeps our crematorium busy.

Food for thought anyway.
Cheers,
Bob VK6BE.
