Hi Pete and lurkers,

There is NO debate on where the Mini Cat originates, or others
that resulted from that conversation a year or so ago.
TATA Motors, is ..or obtained licence to produce this version
in India.

The TATA version for India, is meant at this time for India, and
has not been submitted for approval here in CANADA. Domestic
consumspion.
Ok on the Popular Mechanics of the 1960s. lets of course jump forward
to 2012, and

Mazda says the Wankel or rotary engine, and as for a mechanic's
point of view, all these problems were the seals, which have since
been overcome. with the wankel or rotary engine mechanic of MAZDA
CANADA, I also heard of emission trouble, high fuel consumption and
other envolement of other companys to overcome problems, given too
political troubles that nearly killed the engine in the 1970s.
If in restoration someone gets an older engine, I guess the best place
to get help is a mechanic that understands the engine. Seems most
over here don't, but then today we see the wankel versions or rotarys
that are versions...in aircraft, motorcyles, snowmobiles and water
as well cars ...still.
I long way from the DKM type ran in 1957 and the KKM in 1958.
Obviously there are better types in service today.

I never went back to the actual VW beginings, but to praise at that
time in my life, driving the 1960s version, engineered and built
in Germany. Better engineering ... my VW ...YES. 1966. YES.
There is nothing to really argue here on history of the VW...
we all know the story behind the "people's car" and the relationship
between the designer and Hitler.
I don't see what flaws you speak of with the VW..or is this about
something else. Our last VW was 1950s, and passed along and
is still running, maintained by a mechanic who really knows VW.

VW Microbus ...aaah yes the Combi, as known in Brasil.... and
do they ever love their VWs there....
we got a treat watching John Depp's new movie...where they featured
a combi..or microbus ... looked like a great restoration job.
Anyhow...time for tea...some chat with Maria, then off to do other
needed home chores...ttfn
Pete
