Hi Warren et al.

I think it was G4IJL in a later bull who gave facts and figures about the
various forms of power generation in the UK. He did mention geothermal
energy along with wave energy as being a minor energy source. I won't try
to expand an his figures as, frankly, I just don'y know. All I have
noticed is the ever growing number of wind farms and, even in the cold NW
UK I see quite a lot of solar panels.

I do know for a fact that, even here in the cold, wet North West UK solar
cells can be remarkably effective. You don't have to live in a warm, sunny
place to get a benefit from them.

The reason I didn't immediately grasp the point of the "freezer in
reverse" was that we don't have much air conditioning in the UK, even in
cars which sometimes have it but it is rarely, if ever used unless we
drive to the continent, especially southern France and further where it's
a question of "how do I switch this thing to cool the car instead of
heating it?"

On a slightly different point, I do feel for people like Pete VE3WBZ with
his temperatures.

He has shown me the snow outside his house on Skype.

This winter and last winter we have had temperatures lower than -10 C for
the first time in decades ! Pete gets them every year while we have gone
back to the normal wind and rain fo over a month now.

I have never asked Pete as it would seem nosy how expensive it is to keep
warm during such long, cold periods. In my case, I am waiting as usual for
the temps to get established firmly in double figures when I can switch
off the cenral heating until October and rely on the double glazing and
warm clothing to keep warm. I couldn't care less about carbon footprint,
global warming (?) or diminishing fossil fuels. All I care about is how
much cash per day it is costing me. I am not alone.
