Bill ended with:
"Our gym at school is now heated by heat pumps. It's like the domestic
freezer in reverse, the box gets warmer for those who don't know. Other
wise it's just bigger, farmer's barn sized box. The heat sources is fresh
air blown through the evaporators. Note it has a regular defrost in below
freezing or low temprature weather and a cloud of steam comes out of the
outside boxes when this happens for a couple of minutes or so."
That really interested me. I had always thought that heat pumps had one
end below the earth, like down a coal mine. I hadn't realised they were in
productuon, extracting heat from the air, even at the UK's mild
temperatures.
I wonder what the efficiency is i.e. what does it cost to run the pumps ?
Thank you for a thought provoking point. That's why I've made this a
bull@WW instead of an SP. I wonder what other countries are up to.
