Hi again Paul and all,
The bickering was dumped a while ago, that's an old bull you responded to.
You got it half right, a fuel cell converts hydrogen and oxygen into
water and electricity in a reverse electrolysis reaction BUT a secondary
rechargable battery is a storage cell, not a fuel cell. It's all a matter
of definitions, a fuel cell generates electricity from fuel while a
storage cell stores it. The primary source of energy in this case is the
fuel cell, in fact it is the only source of energy since a secondary
(storage) cell is not a source but a storage resivoir.
Eh, not that it's an excuse or anything but maybe now you see why I blew
up. Bob kept hammering away with misinformation to the point I had it up
to THERE and I had other anger issues at the time, I owe him an apology
so when I get done here an e-mail is in order, rather overdue I would
imagine.
Hmmm, so you're a solar power person! That's great if you can afford it,
unfortunately money for installation and upkeep is hard to come by these
days. I guess that's because of foot dragging in the tech shop, we got
too complacent and didn't develop alternate energy sources until things
became critical and now we ask where the money for R&D will come from.
Oh, in your other bull you mentioned deep cycle (lead-acid) batteries as
opposed to those for motor start applications. I'm familiar with physical
construction, it all has to do with material flaking off the plates
during charge-discharge cycling. For the benefit of others, car batteries
being only used for starting don't deep cycle so there is little flaking
and the battery will lose its ability to hold a charge long before
material builds up in the wells shorting the cells out. Where there is
deep cycling between charged and discharged states flaking is
considerably greater so the wells are much deeper below the plates to
accomodate build-up.
Oh please, we're caught in a spiral of rising food and other prices
making survival more difficult with each passing day. The causes are too
numerous to discuss here but there is light at the end of the tunnel, a
train. A population expands to the limit of its food supply and when it's
exceeded and the food gone the population implodes to a managable level.
One way or another our population will implode and what's left will be
sustainable although society will be a bit more primitive. Yup, the
greenies will get their wish without even lifting a finger, Gaia will do
it for them and hopefully wipe them off the face of the Earth, the bloody
pests!
Speaking of trains...
