Hi Peter,

You need to set up Firewall Rules (properly called Access Control Lists)
on the Router to allow these Ports to be used, a quick search on Google,
with the words 'which port does echolink use', and the first page brought
up the information you need to create these rules yourself.

Your Netgear DG834G is not a Modem, it's a Router, there is a difference.
