Hello Mel,
I found this very interesting - and I thought our across Bass Strait race
was hard, and they are under sail unless the conditions demast their
craft.
Our race starts on Boxing day from Sydney for those who don't know, and
comes down the Eastern coast of Australia and then crosses Bass Strait,
known as one of the roughest stretches of water in the world, but it can
also be very calm.
The challenge of changing conditions possibly playing the biggest role in
the result, and there are somtimes some very weather worn crew and yatchs
arriving in Hobart Docks.
A few years ago there was an extremely rough crossing for them, and
several lives were lost along with some yatchs.
