As those who take the trouble to download and read my bulletins will
know, I am passionately fond of the sea, ship, boats and all things
nautical. It will be no surprise then that since the start of the month
I have been following the progress of teams in Atlantic Rowing Race 2005
and particularly of Ben Fogle who has been a presenter of "Countryfile"
and his rowing partner James Cracknell who won a Gold Medal in Greece at
the Olympics.

These two are rowing their boat "Spirit of EDF Energy" which is number
30 and was fifth to cross the start line.

The Atlantic Rowing Race 2005 is one of the world's toughest nautical.
challenges and the ultimate test of mental and physical strength and
endurance. This gruelling 2,550 nautical mile ocean rowing started from
La Gomera, Canary Islands, on Sunday 27th. November 2005 and will finish
approximately 55 - 60 days later in Antigua, West Indies.

With teams from U.S.A. and Canada Australia and New Zealand, Guatamala,
France, Denmark, Ireland and various parts of the U.K. this is truly an
international event.

Those with internet access can follow progress on a day to day basis by
checking out the official website the URL of which is:

          http://www.atlanticrowingrace.co.uk/

Of the four man teams, "All Relative" are well into the lead with only
1521 statute miles to the finish. These four lads are all from Beer in
Devon, England.

The New Zealand team, "Team Sun Latte" are in position 15 but to be fair
the leaders are all bunched up with only a hundred or so miles between
them. Ben Fogle who thrives on arduous hardship trials and who readily
admits that he cannot row, is in position 5 so I guess James Cracknell
must have given Ben some coaching! James is married to the racing car
presenter on British television, Beverley Turner who is said to be upset
at James going away to compete in this race.

I am also interested in the position of Liz O\'Keeffe from Southampton
who with Richard Mayon-White in "Row 4 Cancer" are in position 14.

I hope this will have been of interest to some readers. Enjoy the season
of goodwill...
