VE1EX (Andrew)....asked about commercial whips (marine variety).

An old Polar Electronics catalog lists nine ranging from 12' to 30'
or 3.5M to 9M. The 9M described as "very heavy duty, suitable for
commercial shipping"

An equally old Moonraker catalog shows several up to 46' (14M) weighing
86kg or 190lbs and costing over 6kilobucks Australian.

My ketch has a 5.5M from Moonraker which resonates at around 8.2mHz
and another the same length that I wound myself. Both load up quite well
using Icom at130 automatic tuners. I never have any trouble making
contact with anyone I hear on any Ham or Marine frequency. I also have a
backstay for lower frequencies. Most contacts don't believe its a whip
and barefoot rig but the steel hull and salt water make the difference.
Just ask any HF CB'er who backs his car down a launching ramp.
