One extra point worth mentioning.....
My antenna is an inverted V straddling across the roof of the house. It
is supported at the top via an arm clamped to my two inch mast coming
away from the mast horizonally.
From the end of the arm I dropped a short bit of rope, at at the end of
this I tied very tightly a piece of curved 3/8" copper pipe. My anttena
wire runs through the copper pipe and my feedpoint is some way away from
the highest point close by the arm and towards the rear of the house.
The legs of the V are far from symetrical and of no particular length,
with the shorter length at the front.
By attaching a rope on the end of the shorter leg of wire, it allows me
to easily lower the antenna down to the ground for maintenance, sliding
easily through the section of copper pipe.
I didn't use a G5RV or anything bought commercially, just perfectly
ordinary plastic covered single core, flexible 2.5mm electrical cable,
plus an home made centre insulator. This has 450Ohm ladder feeder then
dropping down to the AH-4.
It tunes up perfectly on all bands from top band to 10m at the push of a
button with my AH-4.
It took no measuring, no testing. I simply put it up the longest length
I could manage and it works a treat.
