Hi Charlie and all,
Ah, the continuing debate over which is which, radio BBS or land line
BBS. WHEN (if ever) will they understand?
Radio BBS: one which connects to the HF radio WAN.
Land line BBS: one which forwards via the Internet regardless wheyher or
not it has radio (VHF/UHF) user ports. (One which uses the Internet WAN)
The key is the use of wide area network (WAN) forwarding, NOT the use of
local area network (radio or land line LAN) forwarding. Does anyone know
the difference between LAN and WAN? Somehow I doubt that many out there
do.
Oh, like GB7ABC and some others that have no radio ports, it's pretty
obvious they're land line BBSes. Then again, does anybody out there know
what a BBS is? Many don't have the foggiest, they think they're exclusive
to Ham communications. (Note the avoidance of the word "radio".)
Before the Internet as we know it today, there were many land line dial
up BBSes, many Ham related too, but none of them had radio ports, they
were simply BBSes. Still I don't think they get it...
Nowadays there are still BBSes out there, but instead of dial up they're
on the Internet. Clue: they're called chat rooms, web pages, newsgroups
etc. Catching on?
These BBSes aren't connected to a radio in any way, most aren't radio or
Ham related in any way. Light just come on?
Oh, they ALL use packet. Now you're totally confused just when you
thought you had it all figured out, RIGHT?
OK, I'll leave you all in the state of confusion, we call it New Jersey.

Charlie, I hope you got a good laugh out of this, I know at least YOU
know what I'm on about.
This message sent entirely by radio LAN and WAN, what happened to it
after that I have no idea who mangled it. (But I know WHAT mangled it and
it wasn't Amateur Radio.)
