I didn't quite understand Warren's reply but Pete's description was quite
good.
In English: if you have some left over chips or other fried spuds, put
them in a hot frying pan, cook and turn into a kind of cake.
The probably use different words in American.
I remember as a small boy learning a song which went:
Put on de skillet, Put on de lead, mama's lil baby loves shortnin bread.
You could learn a lot from theose old American folk songs........
