Worked All Ireland at Lough Erne Rally
The Irish Radio Transmitters Society stand will attend
the Lough Erne Rally in SHARE on Sunday 11 April.
This Rally has been a major meeting place for radio
amateurs and radio experimenters from both sides of the
border since the first one in Enniskillen back in 1982.
This history was behind the Club invitation to IRTS to
attend, and the Club is honoured that IRTS has taken up
the invitation.
Furthermore, in this same context, the Club asked that
the IRTS stand be used to encourage a revival of Worked
All Ireland activity.
With better propagation, it is again possible to work on
40 and 80 metre bands across the whole island, making
contacts in all counties and in the squares on Irish
Ordnance Survey maps. WAI is an ideal way to foster
amateur radio contacts across the whole island.
Moreover, it could involve many new amateurs and
experimenters licensed in the ten years since Worked all
Ireland activity was last busy around 2000.
Using the Fermanagh Repeater, GB3CP, Martin Gi7JGT will
operate a talk in service for those travelling to the
Rally on Sunday morning 11 April. This Repeater's
coverage includes the northern stretches of the N2 and N3
in the Republic, and the western M1 from Belfast.
Kenwood have donated a fine raffle prize. It is a TH-F7
dual band FM hand held. The ticket selling team will be
led by three of the women among 18 on the Club's recent
Foundation course that were first on air - Fidelma M6UIM,
Shauna Mi6SFH and Noreen Mi6NCC. All 18 new Foundation
licensees will be presented with Welcome to Amateur Radio
Certificates at the Rally by Billy Pollock, GI3NVW, who
is himself over 50 years licensed.
