Theory Examination

The next theory examination for the Amateur Station 
Licence will be held on Wednesday, 7th July at 2pm in the 
ComReg Offices in Dublin and at other centres if 
warranted by the numbers.

Information on examination fees and other details please 
see 'Theory Examination' in the 'Information' section of 
the IRTS website at www.irts.ie 

Intending candidates are also referred to 'Studying for 
the Amateur Radio Examination' in the 'Downloads' section 
of the website.

The latest date for receipt of applications to sit the 
examination is Wednesday, 23 June next but it is 
important to note that places at the exam are allocated 
on a first come first served basis.

IRTS 78th AGM

Dundalk Amateur Radio Society shall be hosting the 78th 
Irish Radio Transmitters Society A.G.M over the weekend 
of Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th April 2010.

Brendan Trophy Attempt 2010

Fred, DM8MM, plans another activity from VO1 (grid GN37) 
in June / July 2010. He will be well equipped on 2m and 
looks for possible sked partners from Ireland.

He would be happy if someone could consider a portable
operation from the EI west coast.Please contact Fred via

St. Patrick's Day Special Event Station.

The Foyle and District ARC, situated 5 miles south of 
Derry, have been allocated the callsign GB5SPD to 
celebrate St. Patrick's Day. The callsign will be used 
over several days, from March 15th until March 17th.

While most of the contacts will be ssb, it is hoped to 
use digimode this year for the first time. A special QSL 
card has been printed for the occasion and reports from 
SWL's will also be most welcome. More details may be 
found on the qrz.com page, GB5SPD.

Dromineer Castle Activation

Members of the Galway VHF Group will be heading to 
Dromineer to activate Dromineer Castle on Wednesday the 
17th of March. The designated number for this Castle will 
be EI-04-C. The Callsign for this operation will be 
EI4ALE/P.

These numbers are obtained from Steve, EI5DD, and are 
essential for claiming the CASHOTA-Ireland and UK awards. 
Operation will be on 80, 40 and 20 metres from 10 AM 
until around 3 - 4 pm.

Dromineer Castle is situated next to the Harbour on the 
banks of the Shannon, a popular mooring spot for the 
boating fraternity and an excellent spot for a picnic. 
Galway VHF Group member, Declan EI2GE, owns the Hostel 
next to the Castle and will be preparing a fine feast at 
the end of the day before the group heads back to Galway.

This is the first in a series of activations planned for 
this year.

Bere Isl EU-121 Activation

Olivier ON4EI will be activating BERE ISLAND EU-121 as 
EJ8GQB, his new Irish callsign (EI8GQB).
This solo expedition is planned from 21st-29th March 
2010.

Activity will be 160-10m SSB/RTTY.
HB: Spiderbeam beam LB: 18m vertical mast top loaded + 
30*radials Rig: K3 100W

He will also make part to the CQ WPX SSB CONTEST March 
27th-28th 2010.

Holiday Dxpedition

Once again, Madeira (AF-014) is the holiday destination 
of the two DXpeditioners Rosel, CT9/DL3KWR, and Hardy, 
CT9/DL3KWF, for four weeks.

From March 11-25 they are staying in their first QTH and 
will then move to a second QTH with worse possibilities 
for antennas. 

After every 10th unreplied CQ call in RTTY or PSK31 they 
will QSY to CW. Activities will take place every day 
until 1000 UTC and from 1600 UTC until midnight.

They prefer working on the WARC bands and in CW, RTTY or 
PSK31.Requests for paper QSLs can be sent via 
dl3kwr@darc.de or dl3kwf@darc.de or via homecalls.

Wicklow Radio Club

The Club would like to thank Paul EI5DI for the Demo on 
his logging software at last Week's meeting and it has 
been decided to enter the CW field day contest on June 
5/6 so those of you interested please come forward. 

Even if you don't know or operate cw it will be great to 
get involved in other activities, logging, antenna 
erection etc. The Next meeting is confirmed for wed 14th 
of April at 19:30 All are welcome to attend.

ECHOLINK AT LOUGH ERNE RALLY

Echolink allows licenses radio amateurs to communicate 
with one and other over the Internet using a mobile or 
static FM transceiver. Ian Morrow Mi1CCU will have his 
interesting stand at the Lough Erne Rally, on Sunday 11 
April in the arena at the SHARE centre near Lisnaskea, 
County Fermanagh, which is WiFi enabled. 
 
Ian's Echolink station, with a home brew VOIP interface, 
is near Sixmilecross in County Tyrone. Via MB7ICC, local 
amateurs with ordinary two meter rigs can make worldwide

There have been enquiries about accommodation near the 
Rally. SHARE is the largest residential activity centre 
in Ireland and has a guesthouse on site. B&B costs
