Hello Ray and others.
On  your  first  topic, the lift of an aerofoil, the great majority of lift
comes  from  the  shape  but  it  can't  be stated as 2/3 because it varies
according  to  speed  and  the shape of the wing. Many people do think that
lift is caused by an aeroplane wing striking the air at an angle but it
just isn't so. It is almost entirely die to the lower perssure over the top
of the wing. If you look at most modern aircraft you will see small wingtip
fins  which are there to prevent air from below the wing reaching the upper
surface  over  the  wing tip. Some of the increased pressure below the wing
does  come  from  airflow  but,  if you looked up Bernouilli while you were
checking on Dalton, you'll see what I was talking about.

It  is an observable phenomenon that, mixtures of fluids do stratify. Take,
for example, the flaming drinks like Gletscher Eis or try pouring alcohol
or  methylated  spirit  on to water. The alcohol will float on top and burn
quite happily until used up, something it wouldn't do if it just mixed.
If we leave out latent heat, a subject on it's own, some elments like
water  can  exist  as  solid, fluid or gas and, in all three forms, they do
stratify.  The ice near the surface of a glacier flows over the more dense,
lower ice, water flts on or, as with the alcohol, sinks below other fluids,
steam rises in air.

Partial pressure is the pressure produced by one gas in a mixture, e.g., the
partial pressure of oxygen in air.

As  for  the ozone layer, there are many theories ranging from burning rain
forests to cow's farts (methane) but the generally accepted reason is the
way  that  Oxygen O2 converts to Ozone O3 in the prescence of UV light from
the  sun  and back again during the night. This is adversly affected when a
high concentration of Fluorine is present from OxyFuorohydrocarbons, which
were used in refrigerators and to pressurise sparay cans. The combination of
Oxygen  with  Fluorine prevents the formation of Ozone and thence we get an
Ozone layer.
Please don't flame me on this one as chemistry is by far my weakest subject.
The  explanation  I've  tried  to give was from a TV science programe a few
years ago. The sight of a complex molecule terrifies me!
