Hi Warren.
It sounds like we've got a little bit more transatlantic spelling
confusion here.
What little I know of that kind of engineering is that the shape of a cable
suspended between two points is a catenary, pron: cat een ary. The thing it
supprts, e.g. in a suspension bridge is a cantilever.
I'll leave it at that as I don't know the subject but it does sound
reasonable that the supports would be called 'cat' short for catenary
poles.
