Hello Electricians
Ian G0TEZ takes exception to various national terms and conditions, but
isn't that normal? We all different. But Hams are less so than others.
Ian seems to be a very patriotic gentleman and has no doubt read at least
one version of history. Whether Joe Swann or Tom Edison eventually
got it right doesn't make the light work. Nic Tesla's AC does that!
But everyday, 21st century items such as plugs and plug tops, lamps and
globes, and one from me, batteries and cells, are another matter.
Before radio, TV, and long distance air travel, we all lived happily with
our own national do's and dont's, with perhaps electricians using a
common language. It's normal practice in Australian electrical trades to
call a lamp a lamp. A lamp then fits into a light fitting.
Plugs are the things that are fixed to the wall, and a plug top goes on
the 'flex' which connects to the appliance. Sounds right to me!
Incidental to Ian's problem, or is it, a gun battery consists of more than
one gun, and to my way of thinking an electrical battery has more than one
cell. Singly they are guns and cells. I'll get shot for that one!
Ian's 'ignoramus' who started the plug top trouble, is out of harms way as
he pre-dates me. In an earlier life, (I'm in my fourth now) I was an
electrician, and he was long gone then!
By the way, Ian, it was your Queen Victoria who said, get another electrician
when she took a dislike to Marconi. Seems you can't please everyone!
Them's me sentiments and I'm sticking to 'em!
