A "plug" is MALE, and a "socket" is FEMALE, but they both are connectors.
A plug shouldn't fit into another plug and a socket shouldn't fit another
socket.
It seems that the 60's was a very confusing time for some - they got the
male and female all mixed up !! :-(((
