Hi Charlie and all,
Having more experience with Cool Edit Pro/Adobe Audition I feel more
comfortable with it than Audacity but that's just me, your mileage may
vary. Now there's a catch here and that's the recording EQ curve, not all
especially earlier ones use the now standard RIAA curve. European LPs
were all over the place and 78s worse, then there was no standard at all
so that's quite a hit or miss proposition. Then there is the matter of
stylus diameter but that's another can of worms.
All is not lost however, CEP/Audition for one has a neat EQ correction
feature so if something doesn't sound right it can be fixed in "post
production". Now if you really want to get fancy you can record flat and
set the EQ to follow published curves, I can't say where to find them
offhand but I can find out if anybody's interested.
