Hello All,
Someone wrote about not getting cataracts because of wearing sunglasses.
Its not quite as simple as that.
Wearing sun glasses will make the problem far worse, because the sunglass
lenses do not protect against U/V light whilst at the same time, letting a
lot more harmfull U/V light in,because the pupils of the eye open a lot
wider because of the darkened glass.
So you must get specific sunglasses which also filter the U/V light out.
These are by no means cheap, and a good friend of ours who is an optician
also told us they are still no improvement because the extra U/V light
filtered out is more than compensated for by the extra U/V light let in by
the pupils opening wider, but if you must wear sunglasses at least use
the U/V filter ones.
By the way he still got asked for sunglasses even when he explained all
this to prospective customers.
