I my memory serves me correctly, I believe these tended to work loose in
use, so were tightened into place after a dab of what would today be
called 'Locktite', was applied to the threads. The only way to free them
is by the application of heat. Remove all heat susceptable bits first
(or cover with a damp rag), then use an hot air gun whilst trying to
turn the key.
