It's even worse than that. There are several companies about to roll
out some interesting messaging services in the US. Have looked at
three of them in some detail, prior to investing. No need to wait for new
freqs to open up, plenty of ways to do it via mods to existing services.

No telephone service in Rosarito?

Um Stew ... you just directly responded to Charles.

Ya gonna get that startup going, ya better spend less time here, and
more time putting together the business plan. Of course it has already
been done, in Japan and in Europe, and there are three companies
about to roll it out here in the US, but that shouldn't stop you.

Apparently some of you people from the USA seem to think that the entire
world outside of their country is socialist, and the governments of all
those countries are "giving away" services to their inhabitants.

This is not the truth. The companies operating the mobile phone system
over here (and in most other countries) are fully commercial operations,
and are operating on frequencies that they bought during an auction just
like that. In fact, most are already operating on 1800 MHz as the 900 MHz
band you mention was already completely used several years ago.

Unfortunately, European consumers are now suffering from the "European
Community" problem, where all the companies in the European countries think
they will be better off when they operate in another country than their
original home country, and end up fighting over the scarce spectrum space
during those auctions.

So, everyone ends up paying way too much, and the only way to recover those
costs is by letting the consumer pay more. They can only hope to get
something back via their governments (who received the money and are
supposedly doing something for the country with it). But in the case of
the Netherlands, the parties came to agreement pretty quickly and the total
sum was way less than expected. In Germany, our neighboring country, the
reverse happened and everyone paid WAY too much. Now, some of the parties
involved in that mishap are also active in the Netherlands and so our
customers will end up paying without any chance of getting any returns...

In fact one can be surprised that a country like the USA, which is supposed
to be capitalist, is using this auction system. It will bring money from
the consumer to the government, which you people are so eager to claim is a
socialist system.
