This is the first so called "flame" I've ever written. I think it's
well written and has many good points. It's up to you to decide if it's
deserved.

Stop making foolish assumptions and being a know it all. I never said
to send the microwaves through the mountains. Most of us know the
basics. This is the kind of snobery we DON'T need. The challange is HOW
might we do it otherwise.

Of couse you missed my point that nay sayers like you ridiculed our
inventive forefathers too. Get on the inventive bandwagon or get off
the road. You're in the way.

When they are ridiculous laws - of course. The National 55mph speed
limit WAS a ridiculous law. Whole States disobeyed it. Eventually it
was overturned.

The 55mph speed limit is not really that much of a law. If you were
caught surpassing it(within moderation), you were guilty of
an "infraction". You were NOT put in jail(as long as you paid your
fine).

I view the perceived "content restrictions" on Amateur Internet access
in much the same light. There are no clear cut rules. Hams sell ham
gear all the time using amateur frequencies, and many even make a small
living at it - that is somehow OK. As long as "blabbermouths" didn't
go complaining to the FCC - we could also have free wireless access to
the Internet. While anal-retentive spoil-sports have helped to
restrict growth up to this point - it has really been the lack of
applications that have stopped the growth of Internet-backboned packet
systems. Now, with the increasing capabilities and dropping prices of
PDAs - a new applications arena is beckoning(it might not involve Web
access, but portable e-mail, chat, newsgroups, and stock quotes are
VERY doable applications at 9600bps - even 1200bps). I say just try to
ignore the spoil-sports, as they putter along in the slow lane at
55mph - blocking-up traffic. Besides, if they put up too much of a
