Subject: Difference between MFJ 1270 TNC models?

Does anyone know what the differences
are between the MFJ 1270, 1270B, and
the current model 1270C models?

The 1270 (no suffix) seems to be another
knockoff of the TAPR TNC2, but I have not
been able to find any other information
relating to these units. A phone call to MFJ
yesterday brought little additional information.

Thanks for your help and assistance.

I'm not familiar with the 1270C, but as I recall the 1270 was pretty
much identical to the TNC-2 (it was licensed by TAPR, not really a
knockoff) with a different form factor. I don't know if it had some of
the mods which were recommended, like removing the MF-10 filter.

The 1270B has that filter removed and also has provision for switching
between 1200 and 300 baud. There was also a 1274 which was identical,
except for the addition of an LED tuning indicator for HF.

At some point MFJ increased the amount of SRAM from 16K to 32K in the
1270B (required by later firmware).

The RigBlaster is not involved in receiving, only tranmitting. If you
don't have a waterfall, you probably don't have enough audio signal
coming from your radio to the input of the soundcard. Sometimes you
have to use the speaker output on the radio and/or microphone input on
the soundcard to get enough signal. On my IC-736, I take the audio
from the accessory jack on the back, but then have to use the
microphone input on the SoundBlaster to get enough signal. Make sure
whichever input/output combination you are using, you have the
corresponding input on the soundcard not muted and at a sufficient
level.

Yes, same suggestion here. The IMPORTANT thing in my case was that there are
many mixer controls on the average soundcard and you have to make sure that
the right ones are turned up. Yes, it often requires multiple controls to be
turned up. On the volume control applet, make sure that you have the
properties set so that you see all of the controls, and that all of the
controls are turned all the way up.
