Subject: Distance?
Is there a frequency on which I can send data at a decent rate (64k/s) over
about 150 miles? I'm looking for very low-budget equipment.
Thanks

64 kb/s, low-budget, and 150 miles are conflicting requirements.

No, I'm sorry to have to tell you that you are entirely out of luck. Nothing
fits your criteria.

I used a standard cable and broke off the pins. The manual tells you
which one's should not be connected. If you don't have a manual, I
could look it up for you.

I bought a cable at Office Max. DB 25M to DB9F. Works fine. You can buy the
cable also at Radio Shack. Timewave cables are exactly the same for the TNC.

I use a standard cable. It works just fine.

Subject: Icom CI-V supports turning on TX ??
Anyone know if the Icom CI-V protocol allows for setting TX and RX (ptt),
especially in the older versions of the protocol (apparently 0x17 does this
for the very latest rigs only).
None of my docs imply this can be done.
If so, what is the CMD, SUBCMD, etc.?
