Hey,
Sign up at Netsetter (for free!), and it will install some free software that
will speed up you Internet connection by 100%! It helped me a lot with my
connection! I now download a lot faster than before, and get lower pings in
games, which eliminates lag!

Subject: 2 TNC's with one radio

Hi Gang,

I was presented the problem of connecting 2 TNCs to one radio. Will
putting them in parallel be a problem? How about putting diodes on the
xmit and the PTT lines.

Thanks & 73,

Willie

Subject: A couple of basic questions re PSK31

I rather fancy trying this PSK31 stuff on HF QRP but have no experience of
this mode.
First of all I'd like to listen in to some traffic. What am I listening for?
What's it sound like as audio? Are the 'overs' long like SSTV or bursts like
packet? Is there much activity and are there specific frequencies where
activity is centred?

That out to do it for now. Thanks for your help.

It'll tell you most of what you need. Some of the other links on this
page will let you listen to what PSK sounds like.

Hi Martin,

PSK31 is a fun mode. Most of the software is FREE. But you will need to
connect your sound card to your computer. If you are very lucky, you can
connect your sound card DIRECTLY to your computer without any audio
isolation transformers, attenuation etc.

But most HAMs have reported ground loop problems when the sound card is
connected directly to the rig. It is a really good idea to use simple LOW
cost audio isolation transformers on the two audio lines connected between
your rig and computer's sound card. You may also have to use a resistor or
two to attenuate the audio output from the sound card to prevent overdriving
your rig (and causing undesirable distortion).

You can easily use VOX with PSK31. BUT if you decide to use your computer's
serial port to key the PTT line of your rig, do NOT use the simple one
diode, one resistor and one transistor circuit. It will create a DIRECT
ground connection between your rig and computer's sound card DEFEATING the
purpose of using the audio isolation transformers in the first place to
break up the ground loops. Instead use a VERY simple circuit using a OPTO
isolator or a relay.

For details on circuits (and the opto isolator circuit), see
www.qsl.net/wm2u

You can also buy a ready made circuit called RIGBLASTER. But it is a little
overpriced in my opinion.

There is LOTS of great PSK31 software to choose from. For a Windows 95/98
computer, DIGIPAN and LOGGER are very popular. (for Logger see
www.itis.net/golist)

You may also want to TRY PSKHell. It is a great mode. In my view, it is
more sensitive than PSK31 and copes much better than PSK31 with polar
flutter.

All you need is a computer with a sound card (and the same sound card
interface used for PSK31). The windows software is FREE and very easy to
use. For details on PSKHell and all the other NEW designer Hell modes, see
www.qsl.net/zl1bpu.

To obtain the great Hell software for Windows by IZ8BLY, see
http://space.tin.it/computer/aporcino/

With your computer and a sound card, you can also try the latest new mode
called MT63 (which uses 63 tones). The windows software by IZ8BLY is FREE.
Again see http://space.tin.it/computer/aporcino/
