SNIP! I had to see this to believe it. I have not done Jack for the
Government except pay taxes. The Red Cross, yes, the American
Institute for Cancer Research, yes, The Parkinson's Institute, yes.
The Government? Hell no!

MY ICOM 735 purchased in 1992 has the original lithium battery. The
manual says 5 years is average. If the battery is removed and replaced
in the normal manner will any memory be lost
that would require factory return. Also what is the battery number.

Any help appreciated.

You won't have to return your IC735 to Icom for reprogramming if
you replace the battery (or if you just let it go dead). That was the
case for some Icom rigs, but not this one. My IC735 is quite a bit
older than yours, and is still on its original battery.

I have a Ten-Tec Pegasus that I want to use for RTTY. Can anyone suggest a
logging and control program which will work with the Pegasus?

Hi Dennis,

We'll be supporting the Pegasus in LogWindows 3.07. The Ten-Tec folks have
been great working with us on getting it implimented.

Look for LogWindows 3.07 by Dayton.

Subject: Will a GPS provide continuous, accurate altitude measurements?

I'd like to be able to drive around in my car, and get a close-to continuous
reading on my altitude above sea level. Will a GPS do this? Is it fairly
accurate and precise? If not, is there a reasonably priced item that would
do this?

What if I interfaced the GPS with something like TOPO USA?

Thanks

GPS altitude data is not terribly accurate. Due to selective availability and
the way altitude is determined it can be hundreds of feet off. Using it with
TOPO USA will not enhance the accuracy at all. However, if both the GPS and
TOPO
are using the same datum, it may be somewhat closer.

Check http://joe.mehaffey.com/ for a great source of GPS info.

Most handheld GPS receivers aren't very accurate in altitude determination.
An error of 500 feet is not uncommon, depending on the satellite geometry
of the members of the GPS constellation that are visible from your location
at any given moment. A normal altimeter (barometer) would probably serve
your purpose better. Many of the auto accessories places carry them, or
you could get one from an aircraft salvage yard.
