Since we are talking about TNC's, anyone have or know of a TNC control
program for the MFJ 1278B OTHER THAN that piece of crap MFJ sells? There SW
is full of bugs and needs to be updated. I am very disappointed that they
have not come out with any other versions to correct the bugs and add
functionality.

Thanks,

Duffy

Shouldn't that be expressed in hectopascal and meter?

Selective Availibility (SA) can throw off the altitude readout
hundreds of feet easily. Unless you have a military receiver,
forget about GPS altitude or wait for a WAAS receiver.

Subject: GPS altitude

Hi everyone. I understand that GPS uses a model of the earth in order to
determine the current altitude. If the model ins't very detailed or very
accurate then the altitude indicated by the GPS will be inaccurate.

I agree with an earlier posting that suggested using a barometer.
At least one model of Yaesu handheld and one model of Casio watch have
barometric features.

1) Get the sea-level pressure setting from a local airport's information
(probably an automatic transmission in the 118-136Mhz AM airband -
should be easy to get if your 2m hand-held has wideband AM Rx).
