The audio cable that came with the unit has 1/8" stereo plugs on each end.
I am using a Radio Shack "Y" cable that is plugged into the speaker jack,
with one "Y" going to the speaker, and the other through an adapter plug
that converts the phono plug to the 1/8" plug coming from the Radio 1 input
on the back of the PK 232.

I must be getting random noise at times because even when I tune away from
any station, the random letters continue - i.e., it just keeps on typing
gibberish.

Then does the DCD light come on in the presence of a signal? Where should
the AF gain be set? I have been setting the threshold to the point where
the DCD light just goes out. Tom W6EIJ

If the DCD lights at all, signals will attempted to be decoded by the TNC.
Once the TNC decodes what it 'thinks' is a signal, then it put that out to
the program and the program displays it on the screen.

I move the DCD a little higher than noise level, that way, when it signal
comes in, that's all that is decoded.

The best way is to use the constant amplitude audio signal
available on the AUX connector on a lot of transceivers.
Sorry, I don't know anything about the Drake.

Subject: radio operator licences?

I am new in this group and to be honest I don't know some the divice/
equipment
that people discuss here. However I do love audio and know how to operate most
of the equipment. My question is what kind of licences that I need to apply
(or
exams to take) so I can qualify to operate commercial radio in the US. I heard
there are few types: one for board operating only, one for station licence,
one
for engineering....? I have no idea about any of those. Please enlight! Thanks
so much!
