Subject: DSP upgrades to PK232MBX

I have a PK232MBX that I bought back in 1992, and it lacked Pactor
capability. I bought the upgrade to enable pactor and the DSP. It seems to
work better in situations where there is high noise or qrm. It was worth
the money for me because very few stations use Amtor these days, and Pactor
is very popular. I've never owned any other TNC so I can't really make
comparisons, but I'm satisfied with the performance of my Timewave TNC, and
have made plenty of DX contacts with my 100watts and dipole.

Subject: FS: Astron Power Supply transformers

For sale:
Astron power supply transformers
(1) from an Astron RS-20M
(1) from an Astron RS-35M

I replaced the standard 110v transformers in two Astron power supplies
with switchable 110-220v transformers. The transformers which were replaced
are now available. They are in perfect operating order, run quietly (these
are not hummers!)

RS-20 transformer: 110v ac primary, 34v (no load) ac secondary with
center-tap. This transformer is capable of a continuous 16A cont. 20A
intermittent current draw. There is a also another secondary winding, 44v ac
but I don't know how much amperage draw is capable from it. $18

RS-35 transformer: 110v ac primary, 34v (no load) ac secondary with
center-tap. This transformer is capable of 25A cont., 35A
intermittent current draw. There is a also another secondary winding, 44v ac
but I don't know how much amperage draw is capable from it. $25

Either (or both) would make a perfect replacement for an existing supply,
a great addition for the hobbyist or 'do it yourselfer'!

Buyer would pay shipping from S. FL 33478

Are you using LSB? If I remember correctly mark = 2100 and space = 2300
meaning that you must use LSB even if you are on 20m. I no longer have
a PK232 so somebody correct me if I'm wrong. Also the baud rate between
your computer and the PK232 must be set correctly. Does the PK232
honor your commands and respond with the appropriate characters?

I recently purchased a PK-232 with the most recent update to DSP. This is
my first attempt at digital communications. I've hooked up the receiver
(Drake R-4C) to the TNC, using the patch cord that came with the unit and a
radio shack adapter going from the 1/8" connector to an RCA plug. The
software seems to work (PK Term'99), but all I get are random characters.
Any assistance would be appreciated. Tom W6EIJ

Tom,

Make sure you're on LSB for RTTY, AMTOR and the other digital modes. If
you're on USB the Mark and Space are reversed and you'll get the random
characters.
