When you only want to support incoming connections, there is no worry at
all with the extended sequencing, because negotiation is completely
automatic and initiated by the transmission of SABME instead of SABM.

Only when you want to make an outgoing connection, you need to consider
if you want to send SABME and risking confusion at the other end.

A single 2N2222 should function adequately as the switch for your PTT
line. Connect the RTS line from the serial port through a 1K or so
resistor to the base. Ground the emitter and connect the collector to the
PTT line. When the RTS line goes from about -10 volts to +10, the
transistor will be turned on and the PTT line will be grounded through
the collector/emitter circuit. A current of 15 ma can be easily handled
as can the 13.5 volts open-circuit voltage on the line.

If you have any trouble, try different values of base resistor until you
find what turns on the transistor.

You can, of course, use a relay provided that the current it draws for
the coil does not overload the RTS line. But, the transistor is much
cheaper, silent, and works with no time delay either opening or closing
the PTT circuit.

Hello
I am trying to find the diagram to build a PTT interface
to activate my transceiver with the computer when
sending PSK31 datas. Can anyone send me something ?
I have tried those given with WinPSK and Digipan but it
doesn't work with my FT-900. the PTT open circuit voltage
is 13.5 v and closed circuit current is 15Ma. I would like
to activate it with the RTS output of my computer.
Should I use a relay ??

What are the recommendations for terminal
software in a Pentium class notebook/laptop

Any advice or experience would be appreciated.
