figure the LEAST they could do is offer me the upgrade. As it stands
they want to charge me MORE money to only partially fix a product that
never worked as advertised.

They seem to want to disassociate themselves from the responsibility
that they acquired during the AEA purchase. They're your friend only
when things are working well, they never heard of you when you're having
trouble. For example, they're all over this newsgroup talking about the
latest relase of this or that, but have yet to respond to this
particular thread.

On the other hand, I've found Rick and CSS to be very responsive to any
problems that were mentioned here. I wouldn't hesitate to do business
with them at all, unless of course it benefitted Timewaste.

No need to bother with an Euro transfer, look at
http://www.infracom-fr.com/yamg.html : they distribute YAM kits with
english documentations, a CD containing updated packet-radio softwares
and... you can pay with a VISA card.

It is much easier when a company accepts cards :-)

Thanks Richard!

Yes - it IS much easier ordering from someplace that will accept a credit
card!
However - after looking at both sites (one you refer to and the YAM site),
doing the currency conversions at today's rates - it's worth the $22us for me
to order direct and find a bank that can cut a Euro check!

Do appreciate the idea though.

Thanks!

Ah yes - That does bring back a memory or two, that and remembering 'Konto'
numbers!

I'll re-check the YAM site and be sure I'm not missing something.

Thanks!

You may have interpreted the "euro cheque" to mean "a check in the Euro
currency", but in fact in Europe these checks have existed far longer than
the Euro currency, and are a completely different thing.

They are bank checks that can be used by customers in a number of European
countries, be written in the local currency of the country one wants to
make a payment in, and guaranteed by the bank up to a certain amount.
(the receiver of the check gets his money even when your account has
insufficient balance, unlike with the US check system)

They have been popular in Europe as a method of payment in shops and
restaurants, much like the credit card in the USA. However, they are
being phased out as electronic methods of payment (and credit cards)
have become more widely spread.
