It's got to be in the ham band because I'll need at least 4-5 watts for
this one. This rocket is not a model or even what is commonly known as
"high power". It's powered by a liquid fuel 300 pound thrust motor, and
will be flown by the Pacific Rocket Society. Expected altitude around
25,000 feet, landing zone within about 5 miles (hopefully).
I'm looking for a 2meter kit with as much solid state components as
possible. Coils have a way of changing their reactance when subjected
to 50g's!
Thanks for the reply,

I'm looking into getting the new
SCS PTC-IIE and getting active in
the winlink system..
anyone else here active on winlink
and/or using the PTC-II or the new
PTC-IIE ??
I've been a long-time KAM(E) user
and noticed that the new PTC-IIE
in addition to pactor-II also
supports the use of PSK31..
I would like to hear from others
who are either using the PTC-IIE
or are active on the winlink
system with SCS or other brands
of pactor controllers..

Thanks. It's got a few thousand users around the world, so I think I
must have done something right!

WA8DED host mode uses a polling loop between the software and the TNC.
There is no hardware handshaking, it's not needed. If you read WA8DED's
docs you'll find it in there somewhere.

MFJ-1270C with a 9600 baud modem and after it signs on the DCD light
comes on and stays on. With it on, it refuses to tx. A hard reset did
no good.
Any ideas?

Subject: Decoding packet with a soundcard in Windows
The T/R switching cable is pretty easy. Linux supports both the
serial and parallel port for this. Me, I went to the local electronics
store and picked up a big pack
of 2n2222's with the little metal cases -- and they seem to work pretty good
for this.
On Linux I use parallel port, since my serial ports are filled up
with other TNC's and stuff. I run one soundmodem with Linux using a SBPro
and an old FM
2m mobile radio for 1200 baud packet. And another soundmodem in Windows
using
SV2AGW with an MFJ 8621 for 9600 baud soundmodem. For that I use a Diamond
monster
sound card.
(As a curious side note, I have two ports, vhf and uhf, both which can reach
the gateway at w6yx.
So, if you telnet to my vhf port, what happens is that packets to me come in
over the VHF, while
packets back to you come in over the UHF 9600 port -- so it's sort of a
goofy kind of duplex that
