running thread results from a single cross-posted article, and its
content drifts further and further away from being "on-topic" in the
various NGs which receive each and every followup.

It looks like some people are using the global nameserver to lookup
the addresses for the names, and then route via the local net. Does
not seem unreasonable, it saves you from having to update a local hosts
file or nameserver database.

Incorrect. The limitation is that the database must be central in order to
be consistent. Local servers slaved to it provide local service.

There is an easy-to-use facility for updating the master server.
Someday soon I hope to also make it available via a web page.
See www.ampr.org for a few more details.

Subject: Packet for Palm Pilot - TNC hardware?

Does anyone know of compact, battery powered, truly portable TNC
hardware?

I am thinking of developing a packet TNC that fits in a Palm Pilot
snap-on modem housing, with spkr/mic connections to a handheld radio,
want to make sure I'm not re-inventing someone else's wheel.

Anyone who is interested in such a product, please respond with a little
info:

1. What TNC do you currently use?

2. What handheld radio would you hook your "Palm connected" TNC to?

3. What type of Palm OS device would this TNC connect to (II, III, V,
etc?)

4. What would you consider a fair price for the TNC?

Thanks in advance!

Subject: Split screen term program?

Hello all...and thanks for reading this.

I run 2 TNCs off of one computer (two com ports), and am looking for a
single terminal application that allows 2 screens (one for each port).

Is there such an animal?

Right now, Im forced to open my terminal application twice...which
works ok, but is rather cumbersome to work with on the desktop.

Thanks much.
