There's nothing there. A poorly designed web page, and designed for
people who read right to left I guess... Nothing technical anyway.

Hank,
I've only just rejoined this newsgroup, but I can assure you, BBS<->NNTP
gateways are already running on Linux configurations. The NNTP<->SMTP
bit is a no-brainer for Linux, these have been standard Unix tools for
years.

Take a look at:

http://radio.linux.org.au/pkgdetail.phtml?sectpat=packet&ordpat=title&descpat=m
ail&pkgid=86

Hessu had a BBS<->NNTP gateway running for nearly 18 months I believe. I
certainly recall using it last year.

Terry

Don't bother Terry, Hank is dementing.
Last week he accused someone of having a faulty memory because he did not
remember that the W-word was mentioned in his original posting. But it
really wasn't! And he could have checked that before, I assume he had a
copy of the article still on his disk. Dejanews certainly had it :-)
He also simply ignores the posts by people on the group saying they are
running it under Linux, insisting on his claim it doesn't exist.
Poor guy.

Subject: Those Wide, Open Spaces

Hi,
as one of those that lives in the "wide, open spaces", I have seen these
arguments ebb and flow.........

Fact #1: Politics destroyed the packet "network" in Nevada.. there were a
bunch
of non-technical types that wanted to do "keyboard to Keyboard" only on the
primary freqs that got us in and out of the state... I know, as I was the only
Packet bbs in northeastern Nevada and on the crossroads north to Idaho and
east
to Utah--if it moved in those directions, it went through my board.

Fact #2: The population density is so low out here, that there is NO hf
capability for packet. In Winnemucca, there are 3 hams that are somewhat
active on HF. Two are not even remotely interested in packet, and the third
has
no interest what-so-ever in running a hf gateway.

Fact #3: The next packet equipped hams to the east are in Elko, 120 miles and
7
mountain ranges away. With carefull placement, two digis will do the trick,
but
who will support them?

Internet is the way to go..... You ARE reading this via the
Internet......................

Because it is impossible to read it via ham radio.
i.e. you could just as well be "NV Jims", the non-ham for all I know.

There is at least one Nevada station that links to my CLOVER
gateway from time to time ... but does not handle any traffic at all.

I used to forward over that "keyboard" network you mention.
Just ignore the whines from the "It's MY NETWORK AND YOU
CANNOT USE IT!" jerks. They put it on air and linked it to MY
network, so I get to use it <grin>.

But why bother, the internet is easier and cheaper.

Subject: What happened to 28.195 1200 Packet?

I recall some great 1200 baud packet (AX.25 and tcpip) activity on 28.195
MHz a few years ago. I assume everyone lost interst when 10 meters died.
The band is coming back and I would like to see the 1200 baud packet
again. The 300 baud on on other bands is just too slooow.
