Hello , especially OM Tony
So , a movie about HAM-Radio for a target audience of 18 to
55 yearlings.
Why not include younger once? Say from 12 years on ? they
have more interrest in such things and more time...
Off all things - open the show with a god string of CW.
CW-the sound will always attract some crowd.
Use a well versed , nice spoken character to explain whats
going on. Leave the operators doing their thing in the
background ... Ill never liked it talking to someone far
away and at the same time trying to explain to visitors
whats happening.
Be versatile, show the whole gammut. Include SSTV, Satpix
and all.
Explain moonbounce and such, relate to the stars and of
course the space station. Mention for shure that hams are up
there as well. (blend in pictures of the moon and flics of
the space station)
Show a foxhunt. Show kids and grown ups trying to find...
and explain as well that these skills can later be handy in
their work they will embark upon. ( like the police tracking
stolen cars) in this vein show APRS and its tracking
capabilities.
Show groups soldering and these skills and again show that
these are prerequisites for later jobs.
Engineering...show antenna work - Hams rigging up a 3 el
beam.
Show the beginning - morse and the titanic, show the today =
your Hamserf, Ares, Hamrad or whatever group helping in
desaster comms.
Underlay a nice audiotrack. Morse when approbiate, space
talk, SSB of course...who loughs here? Digital sounds etc.
Show YLS doing hamming, chatting ( While baking in the
kitchen a nice cake, asking off air far away what else is in
the recipe...trying iranian musmus the real way...
I was once in the process of thinking such an undertaking
over. I also had the idea of making an old style radio show
from Hams for Hams.
Go into the next best school, ask the teachers what you
could do. Ask the kids what they would do to make a movie
for them about Ham-radio. Let them help you make the plot
and play...
Action ! youre right, old codgers talking into a
microphone...He's keeping in touch with his family all over
the world. His Son is sailing single handed around the
world, his doughter is a red cross helper in Banglawhatever
etc.
Its not just a hobby - its a prercourse for a carrer!
Humour too. Let a 12 yearling help grandpa ham to tweak his
handheld. That is the digital clock uncle and not your
rig...
Show many languages, spoken , typed and morsed. Tell them
viewers that morse is one language understood worldwide!
Hamming is an interrest in technology, sophistication,
communication, goodwill and ambassadorship at the same time.
Show a couple of younger Hams tracking a diagram...preparing
for later engineering degrees
Show a young lady trying her new languages learned on the
air for a carrer in foreign countries, show her to be a
stewardess or such later...
Show handhelds , car radios, aprs screens, bikes with Gear
Andys monoplole cartweel...where can "I" get this? Nope ,
built it myself...
Watch your soudtrack again. Fine underlay mix. Many
languages there. Let a Ham say on the rig : Yes, OM , CAN DO
!
Let the CWer turn to his wife in the kitchen and shout : Its
raining again in Tokyo ! And Yamamoto says only a dash of
ginger in the sushi !
Show the beginners writing the exams - to gain something
worthwile some effort is needed.
Show the cost...Free home build to deluxe. Explain that the
running cost are small, the fees are low, and talk is cheap
here - its free!
Invole other Hams, people , kids -girls. There are so few of
them. Blend in other languges. The theme is diversity,
colour, countries , technology, communication,
Always a friendly voice to explain whats shown. Audio is
very important here. A good mixer and a good engineer..
