Hi Peter The CBer and all good buddies out there in Radio Land,
I never watched any of those dumb CB movies, I lived in one. I'm oh so
familiar with those "antenna parties" so it's no wonder one was featured
in a CB movie. If nothing else from your description at least it showed
that hams have been right all along, CBers are a bunch of alpha hotels.
Is it any wonder why I got out while the getting was good? Yup, when it
turned ugly I'd had just about enough and went on to better things, after
a decade on haiatus from transmitting (I kept the scanner and SW
receiver) I returned under my present callsign having left KMD7606 far
behind. I didn't have a QSL which is why you didn't see mine in Frequency
but probably would have, I knew those guys and talked to them
frequency... er, frequently. It's only a short hop from Queens to "the
Jersey side". For those who haven't been paying attention, most of the
QSL cards displayed in the movie were actual CB cards from around the
NYC/NJ metro area. BTW, that dinosaur Heathkit is an oldie but a goodie,
there are plenty of them still on the air. I used the 6M version, it
was a great DX magnet and I have the log (and a few QSLs) to prove it.
Hey, did you REALLY expect Joe Sixpack to know that Amateur Radio even
exists? On rare occasions when someone asks what my strange looking
antennas are for I just say ham radio, kinda like CB only better. THAT
they understand and don't ask any more questions, good, answers are
wasted on them.
No, this is not the opening of another "ham radio is dead" debate!
Uh oh, I can just picture Rusty paddling around with a life jacket, does
he wear a sweater and boots in winter on the ice? (;->) Hey, you're a
Canuk so why not go in business selling little ice skates for dogs? Mmmm,
sounds better than a squirrel on water skis behind an RC boat, maybe
he'll get on The Planet's Funniest Animals.
