(3) VIEWING A DISKS DIRECTORY.

         LOAD"$",8 (RETURN]

         LIST [RETURN]
This method will load the directory as a program and will therefore
wipe
any program you currently have in the computer memory. There are some
cartridge based (e.g. Final Cartridge) and disk based (e.g. Meta Basic)
utilities which will list the disk's directory without interfering
with the program currently in memory.

(4) VERIFYING PROGRAMS:
Once you have saved a program, you can verify what has been saved on
disk with the contents of the computer's memory.

        (A) BASIC program:

        VERIFY "Program name*,8 [RETURN)

        (B) MACHINE LANGUAGE programs:

        VERIFY "Program Name",8,1 [RETURN]
If there is any difference at all, the computer will advise "VERIFY
ERROR"

(5) FORMATTING DISKS:
All new disks are unformatted and are unable to be used until they
have been formatted. To do this use ......
        OPEN 15,8,15,."N0:DiskName,ID No" [RETURN]
(Note: That is N "zero" - not the letter O).
        CLOSE15 [RETURN]
The disk name is up to 16 characters long and must start with a letter
A to Z.
The ID number can contain letters as well as numbers (e.g. A1, AA, or
12).
For safety's sake, only use letters (A to Z) and numbers (0 to 9) for
the disk
        name and ID No.

BE VERY CAREFUL WITH THIS COMMAND BECAUSE IF YOU FORMAT A
DISK WHICH HAS PROGRAMS AND DATA ON IT, ALL THE INFORMATION
WILL BE LOST FOREVER. YOU WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO RETRIEVE IT!

(6) SPLAT FILES:
When you list the directory of a disk watch out for SPLAT FILES!!!!
They can be recognised in the listing as not using any blocks of disk
space
and having an asterisk (*) beside the file type shown on the directory
(PRG,
        SEQ, USR, REL).
If you ever come across a Splat File, DO NOT attempt to use the disk
until
        you have VALIDATED the disk.
DO NOT TRY TO SCRATCH THE SPLAT FILE!!

If you use the disk before validating the disk or you try to Scratch the Splat
File,
it is highly likely that you will corrupt other flies and even the whole disk.
