Hi Pete and all,

What is this, a Pepperage Farm commercial? I remember the old guy with
the New England accent doing the voice over saying at the end "Pepperage
Farm remembers". (;->)

What I don't remember is just how a mobile phone call was handled but
what you describe sounds exactly like New York Marine where a live
operator handled calls. I mentioned my portable, what I didn't sat were
the strange names for the "vessel" I was calling from, everything from
the Mississippi Queen (a song bt Mountain) to the USS Enterprise to The
Good Ship Lollipop and they never even raised an eyebrow. Billing was all
they cared about, to my home number went toll charges from the city plus
$1 radio charge, pretty cheap back in the day. Hang onto that number,
it's a tool for a bit of phreaking.

The best prank I ever pulled was on a doctor from my home town, being
local there was no charge so after hearing the important bits the horns
went up. The nub of it was his first call was to his mistress and the
second to his wife "explaining" he would be gone for the day and wouldn't
be home until late. Oh and BTW tape was rolling. Playing the part of a
New York Telephone tech I called the wife, went through a bit of
"testing" with her and followed it up with a "radio test" during which I
played the tape of the mistress call and part of the one to her. I said
"part" because just before she hung up I heard quite distincly if not a
bit loud "I'm gonna KILL that #&)&^#@!!!" My guess is he sold the yacht.

Yup, this was the 1960s, the HF receiver was a National NC-173 and VHF
was a Hallicrafters S-95 using a 50' long wire and ground plane
respectively. The CB was a Multi Elmac Citifone CD-5A into an Antenna
Specialists Super Magnum and of course everything evolved quite a bit
before Lebonny came along something like 15-18 years later, she wasn't
even born when my radio daze started. Oh I do believe I gave enough
information for the others to figure out IF they remember the magic word
Google. What it won't tell them are a few things I know about her but
then again the media never got as close as I did. (;->)

Yeah brr alright, for a couple of days we were having high winds with the
mercury in the basement, everything frozen solid. Naturally I had to run
out of a few important items and made the choice to go to the store over
roughing it. Now I've come to a conclusion, some bits of my nether
regions won't thaw out until spring. Today wasn't so bad, about half the
wind velocity and about 5 degrees warmer, just enough to keep Al Gore
happy, it IS warmer... SEE?
