Hi Bob and all,

Altitude has little to do with VHF and UHF DX in the way many think it
does. Under normal line of sight conditions height is might but not when
ducting is present. Where the signal lands on it's first hop is critical
at microwave frequencies, hence radar anomalities, but not nearly so much
on 2M, 1.15M and 70cM. My antennas are merely 40' AMSL and can work our
famous coastal ducting from the Canadian Maritimes to the Carribean and
inland up to about 200 miles or so when conditions are right.

FYI, a very high altitude is a distinct disadvantage in such conditions,
it may be at or above the boundary layer.
