A nor’easter will bring a variety of winter weather to the region with the threat for flooding and strong winds for other parts of Southern New England. A brief breakdown of the details follows:
A Winter Storm Warning continues for Southern New Hampshire. Snowfall amounts were adjusted slightly downward with 4-8ö expected before a changeover to sleet and freezing rain before ending in the afternoon.
A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until Noon for Western, Central and Interior Northeast Massachusetts for 2-5ö of snow with the highest snowfall amounts closest to the New Hampshire border before the precipitation mixes and changes to sleet and freezing rain before changing to plain rain in this area.
A Flood Watch is in effect from 6 AM Friday through Friday Afternoon and expanded to cover Northern Connecticut, Rhode Island and Southeast Massachusetts including the Greater Boston Metro area and Cape Cod and the Islands. In this area, 1.5-2.5ö of rain with isolated higher amounts are expected in a short duration of time. This may be sufficient to cause significant urban flooding and flooded basements with the possibility of some smaller streams rising to near or just out of their banks.
A Wind Advisory is in effect for varying timeframes Friday Morning through evening for East Coastal, and South Coastal Massachusetts including the Cape and Islands, the Blue Hills and Metro Boston for sustained winds of 25-35 MPH with gusts of 45-50 MPH possible. The Cape and Islands need to be monitored for potentially stronger winds during the day Friday.
At the request of NWS Taunton, SKYWARN Activation with Ops at NWS Taunton will commence beginning at 6 AM and go through the afternoon for as long as required. This will be the last coordination message on this event unless a significant change to the situation occurs. Below are the Winter Storm Warning/Winter Weather Advisory statement, Flood Watch statement, Wind Advisory statement and Hazardous Weather Outlook from NWS Taunton:
