I've had my own and several other commercial domains hosted at http://
www.ev1servers.net/ for 8 years and so far the service has been
impressive. I'm on a virtual server. I know they sell dedicated
servers as well as managed servers. I'm not sure if they sell rack
space for your own boxes which is probably what you are looking for.
I think the data center is in a hardened facility in Houston. Last
year the story was that when the hurricanes threatened the city, they
sent a crew of customer support people to a hotel in Wichita to run
the phones during the storms and kept a skeleton crew and spare parts
at the data center. I don't know if they had any outages, but I
sure didn't see one on my puny $10/mo virtual server. I'm no where
near capacity, but the configuration says I have an unlimited monthly
data budget. I'm pretty happy with these folks.

http://www.1and1.com/ is another company. I have no experience with
them. But they advertise heavily in all the technology journals.
I've been considering them for a backup site. They are also in a
secure data facility with internet connection redundancy.

of the Commons

This is such a perfect description of the demise of 144.39 prior to the
New-N Paradigm, that I must share it.

Pete, K6XL and Cap, KE6AFE sent back this link which describes perfectly
the human nature I referred to in my post of the above topic..

>I believe this paradigm is called the "Tragedy of the Commons,"

Notice down at the bottom how they have added OPEN RF NETWORKS as classic
examples. Guaranteed to overload and fail. There is no natural
solution. Such common shared resources will always be consumed until
overload and failure..... unless..... the Golden Rule is honored.... AND
ENFORCED...

Interesting. Goes back to biblical times, and to evolution itself.

I think everyone here knows that I'm proud of my OpenTracker project and the
new Tracker2, but there are a couple of (co-)creations of mine that I'm
infinitely more proud of, and I wanted to take a second to acknowledge one
here: Charlie Miller, my 10-year old son, passed his Technician test on
Sunday and was just issued the callsign KI6FAL. He met his goal of earning
his license at a younger age than his old man with a few months to spare.

I've already got a miniature T2 prototype set aside for a bike tracker, and
I'm looking for a good compact 5-watt 2-meter HT that's not too bulky for a
10-year old to handle comfortably. Any suggestions? The VX-150 looks good,
but looks can be deceiving - with the stock battery, my small-looking TH-D7A
barely fits in MY hand!

Maybe in a couple of years his little sister will be ready to try for her
license, and the family record, but Ohm's Law is tough when you haven't
learned multiplication yet. For now it's Grandma, KK6AD, who needs to be
studying - she promised that if Charlie passed she'd ditch her old Advanced
ticket and upgrade to Extra!

Charlie's in Woodstock, VA through next week and he'll most likely be on the
local net on (I think) Monday. If you're in the area, be sure to pop in and
say hi - I'm sure he'd love to hear from everyone. Anyone know if there's
an IRLP node in the area?

73,

Scott
