Adding 44 IP Route info into a Win98se PC for Packet Radio use over a
local LAN.

From the MS DOS box prompt of Windows:

C:\WINDOWS>

TYPE this line:

C:\WINDOWS>ROUTE PRINT

To see a list of IP Routes that your PC knows about

My PC has the local LAN IP address of 192.168.0.1 installed in CONTROL
PANEL, NETWORK, Configuration tab, Ethernet adapter, TCPIP Properties with
a MASK setting of 255.255.255.0
Networking with TCPIP will need to be installed first if not already done.

Type  the following to add 44 IP routing to your Win98se PC
NB it assumes that the PC is using the local IP address of 192.168.0.1
in the Windows Networking screen. Change to suit your choice of local IP
address.


C:\WINDOWS>route add 44.0.0.0 mask 255.0.0.0 192.168.0.1 metric 1

Now type the following to get a new route print:

C:\WINDOWS>route print

See that the 44 range of IP address is now sent to the IP address of the
PC.
Unfortunately Win98se doesn't permanently remember the routing (just typed
in), so it needs entering every time at start up until a batch file is
made to load the data automatically.

The Batch file says:

route print
route add 44.0.0.0 mask 255.0.0.0 192.168.0.1 metric 1

The batch file is created in NOTEPAD as a TXT file, then rename it to a
BAT file.
I named mine 44IPROUTE.BAT and placed it in the C Drive root. I set the
properties (right click to display), program tab and clicked "close on
exit" tick box, then OK.
A shortcut file is automatically created.

So the batch file runs whenever the Win98se PC is started, it needs the
short cut file to be placed in the following location:
C Drive, Windows, All Users, Start menu, programs, start up folder.

If the "close on exit box isn't ticked, the batch file will run & a DOS
box remains open after Windows has finished loading. It can be manualy
closed. Automatic closing on completion is tidier.

I have my WIN98se PC talking to a DOS Xrouter PC (in the shack) by
Ethernet LAN. An AXUDP link allows Xrouter to talk to AGWpe on the Win98se
PC.
