General information.
South Sandwich Isl., VP8. Jon N0JK, writes; The S. Sandwich DXpedition
VP8THU is now QRV on HF. VP8THU MAY operate on 6M for brief periods.
No way to predict if or when they will be on 6M, but I discussed po-
tential 6M prop. and optimum times for EU, NA, SA, AF and Asia with
the team members. Please do not ask the HF ops to QSY if they are busy
working the many who need S. Sandwich for an all time "new one." 73,
Jon N0JK
Midway Isl., KH4. Jim, G3RTE and Phil, G3SWH will be active on both SSB
and CW from Midway between 30 March and 6 April. They have already se-
cured the special callsign of W4M. Propagation permitting, their main
objective is to work as many European stations on as many dands as pos-
sible. They expect to have two stations on the air on all bands between
40 and 10 metres. "We are happy to meet the costs of transport to and
from the island", Phil says, "but are looking for sponsorship and do-
nations towards our living expenses, printing QSLs and the like". QSL
via G3SWH. (QSP de 425 DX News #559)
Faroe Isl., OY. Tom, DL2RTK and Ric, DL2VFR will be active (on 160-6
metres CW and SSB, with some RTTY and PSK31 depending on demand) as

the air some time during the late hours of February 18 and to operate
non-stop with as many as four stations until their departure on March
2. Operations on 160 through 6 meters. Special plans have been made to
insure that the low bands and 6 meters are activated with appropriate
antennas and experienced operators dedicated to overcoming the chal-
lenges these bands offer. The 6M station consist on 2 X FT 847 + PT3
Preamplifier + 7 element loooong Yagi, + 1KW by SB 220 amplifier. Watch
for the DXpedition website www.Trindade2002.com to become active no
later than January 19. Direct questions regarding the DXpedition to
K7BV k7bv@aol.com or PY5EG Oms py5eg@inepar.com.br until the actual
operating begins. They have been issued the special callsign PW0T. This
fact has special meaning to many of the crew because several of them
were participants in last year's extremely difficult and dangerous yet
successful PW0S DXpedition to St. Peter & St. Paul Rocks. The group is
pleased to have the services of renowned QSL Manager Steve KU9C, anot-
her operator who had to cancel due to business obligations. Your kind
contribution can also be sent with your QSL-SASE to KU9C. Dennis Mot-
schenbacher K7BV 4357 Appollonio Way Carson City, NV 89704. Please vi-
sit the Araucaria DX Group website http://araucaria.inepar.com.br/
