General information.
Svalbard, JW. LA5QFA and LA8AJA will be active (on 160-6 metres CW, SSB
and possibly some RTTY) from the JW5E's club house at Longyearbyen,
Svalbard on 14-20 January. They will operate as JW4X on 6 metres (50145
kHz), and as JW5QFA and JW8AJA elsewhere. They will keep a beacon run-
ning on 50080 kHz. QSL JW4X and JW5QFA via LA6EIA (bureau or direct)

The Gambia, C56. PA9JJ, reports he will be staying in the Senagambia
Hotel in Kololi, The Gambia from April 15 to 29. He has requested the
call C56JJ and will concentrate on 40 and 80 meters, mostly SSB, but
will also operate on other bands and some CW. There will be not RTTY
or Topband activity. He will be using an FT-100 with 100 watts and a
multi-band dipole. Logs will be available on his web page after the

He stated he would try to use his multiband dipole on six like he did

Philippines, DU. Starting after January 15 Larry, N6HPX, will be vaca-
tioning again in Manila, Philippines and plans to operate on 6 through

Cocos Isl., TI9. (Update). TI9M DX'pedition Feb 17th - Mar 4th: An in-
ternational ham radio team will be active for 12 days with 5 stations
on all HF bands and 6 m. from Isla del Coco. PLEASE NOTE FREQ CHANGE,
CW now on 50.092, SSB on 50.145. We will use a 6 element yagi, IC756
PROII, & ACOM amp for 6 meters. We will be looking for you all on the

Afghanistan, YA. Nick Peckett, G4KUX, is involved with construction of
the international telecommunications network in Afghanistan. This is
his 6th trip to this war torn nation. Over the years Nick has worked
closely with the MOC so permission to operate wasn't a problem. As of
this point the ARRL has not received documentation for this station,
so WFWL. Look for him on 20 meters SSB, near 14195 around 0130Z. He
plans to be there for a hile and hopes to be QRV on 6 meters by sum-

Honduras, HR. Look for Rene HR1RMG daily on 50110 at 2300Z. Rene, has
several destinations planed for this year. They include Swan Island,
Belize and possibly Meanguera Island. (QSP de The Daily DX #007)
Baker and Howland Isl., KH1. Preparations are now in the final stages
for an expedition to Baker and Howland Island. The permit from the
United States Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) has been granted and
the US will allow access to Baker Island. A special call sign has been
issued and will be made public on the day of arrival to island. This
will be the first expedition to operate from Baker Island. All previous
expeditions were from Howland Island. Team members include YT1AD, YU1AU
YZ7AA, Z32AU, Z31FU, Z32ZM, RZ3AA, K1LZ, K6NDV, N6TQS, KW4DA, K3NA and
AH6HY. The standby operators include: YU7AV, W2YC, G3UML, YU1NR and
YU1DX. The group expects to meet at the Los Angles Airport on April 20
and head for Nadi, Fiji. Seven (7) of the team members will depart on
April 22 for Baker Island via the Princess II, a 92 foot motor boat
which is capable of 9 knots. Meanwhile the remaining members (YT1AD,
RZ3AA, Z32AU, KW4DA and YZ7AA) will fly to Funafuti, Tuvalu on April
23. They will be QRV as T2??? For three days. The sailing team expects
to arrive in Tuvalu on April 26, where they will refuel and pick up the
rest of the team and head on for Baker Island. The group plans to arri-
ve on Baker on April 29/30. Operations are expected to take place from
April 30 to May 10. The team expects to be QRV on 6-160 meters. The
team will depart the island on the evening of May 10. Total cost of
this trip is expected to be around $80,000. Donations can be sent to
Wil, K6NDV, k6ndv@contesting.com. Pilot stations for this operation
are YU1AA and VE3EXY. A web page is expected some time next month.

Fernando de Noronha, PY0. Bill, W5SJ, will be QRV from Fernando de
Noronha during the CQ WW 160 CW Contest. He will be operating from
January 23 to 29 from the QTH of Andre, PY0FF, however he does not
know at this time what call will be used. He plans to be on all bands
before, during and after the contest, mostly CW, on the usual DX fre-
quencies. He'll be on SSB on Saturday and Sunday of the contest in the
afternoons after some rest on 14195, 21295, 28595, etc. He will QSY to
the WARC bands on request. Bill will also check 6 meters every day.

Namibia, V5. DJ4SO, Klaus Behrndt, will be active from Namibia January
16-February 6. He will be on a guest farm near Windhoek. The callsign
will be V5/DJ4SO. He will try to be on 160-10 and maybe some 6, CW and
RTTY mostly, but with a little SSB. He will also try PSK31 but asks you
keep the QSOs short. He doesn't want to hear about your rig, QTH, etc.
