Hello Gus, not Maria, as I have been posting to YL @WW for some
years. My wife Maria, posts sometimes but rarely her recipes
and in reply to other ladies or gentlemen of the YL Net when she
is address on perhaps something she posted via "moi" call
VE3WBZ .. and Maria has no callsign, but might be reached
via skip on the CB band, where she sits and listens and a few
times chats.
Your good times, do remind me of good times as well, when in my
current area here, as I know Packet only here, we had multi
PBBS "1" in our town, and with telephone access...etc. At the
sametime 30 Telephone BBS ...until the Internet came on the scene
which wiped out all the telephone BBS, and the Ham Packet PBBS
as well Ham Radio started to decline, as schools instead of updating
the ham radio stations, gutted them for the computer labs, and
the Internet where now you find, anyone and everyone....no licence.

Nearly same here, but I can reach a few PBBS via RF links in
my area, with the availablity of contact on 3 packet designated
frequencies, and when I used to be on HF... got a sysop near
Toronto to activate his PBBS and encourage the local club to
do so too ... WE all need clubs to keep the PBBS going, even
puttting up with their "Ambulance Chasers" and "autobots Emergency"
to keep things going.

I don't use the Internet for Ham Radio Gus. If I did that, then I
would sell everything and jump right into the Internet. I have
a line between what I term Internet and Ham Radio and "RF".
If I had to leave RF for packet...then I would no longer be on packet.
If you read the original posting on YL @WW it concerned it being
abandoned or dead...when all it needs is a YL ham or OM ham to restart
it with traffic , as we have done...even while there has been
I think some misunderstandings.
Most of this net, now have moved to Internet programs like Echolink
which I have but rarely use, and have a bad to worse attendance
record when going to a YL Net via Echolink. I guess if I knew
how to operat it, I could key it all in via a 2m repeater, but
then ...well "jammers" make 2m like CB and well... enough is enough.

OK Gus ... good luck with the Packet BBS. I hope you can encourage
more to join packet for the wonderful advantage of being able to post
SP <private messages> and as well SB <postings for all to read> and
just have them sit on a BBS until the intended contact connects to
read his or her mail...or postings to their interest..whatever.
Old age... and medical conditions and as well "RF" going...going
and soon gone ...well I have made my comments known. If I can
I will...but no longer monthly YL or OM or anywhere else. NOT ABLE.
