Hello Billie, Michael, Peter, Angela and everyone else reading this.
This is a typical afternnon from the Pacific Northwest in the summer -
although a bit cooler than usual. Lately it has been overcast in the
morning and clearing by early afternoon but today it is still cloudy and
71 degrees at 4 o'clock. July's rainfall was .16 inch at beginning of
the month. We do need rain. But forecast seems to be more of the same.
My two flower planters on the front deck and a larger one in the front
yard are blooming cheerfully - my 3 tomato plants in pots look healthy
and I finally found several marble sized tomatoes on one of them. The
lettuce in a planter on the back deck good in salads and the scarlet
runner beans are climbing the strings afteer a very rocky start when they
got chewed off. The apples are doing well - hope they will be edible as
we hawe have had apple maggots the last 2 or 3 years.
We have a small patch of lawn in front that we are trying to keep green
but the rest is beginning to turn brown - the cool mornings help. Not a
gooda gardn this year but looks better than I thought it would back in
the spring with my broken elbow.
Iat's been a quiet summer - Friday and Saturday I helped with a Yard Sale
(mostly in the Social Hall) at our church which went very well. This
week there is a picnic.
Billie, there is a market about 5 miles from us - the local corn isn't
quite ready yet. They get produce from Eastern Washington where the
weather is hotter.
Since we connected this computer to the Internet I can now telnet and
love being able to connect to this BBS so quickly! Thanks to H.O. N0KFQ.
Peter, I understand how interests change. We have a Monday evening YL 2m
net - we used to have 9 or 10 - now there are about 5 of us who keep it
going. But at our YLRL table at SeaPack (SeaSide, OR) there were 66 YLS
who signed the log (and I wasn't one of them :-( I'm sorry to say) so
there are YLs around.
All for now. Everyone take care.
