'Fraid not. There's only the bhi module for it which I'm nonplussed with.
Shame the cw filter is 100 quid too - what a rip off

Yep, which proves that the SWR meter on 2m is certainly a bit over eager.
Like I said before - it reads 4 blobs even to a 50ê dummy load.
I spent hours wondering why my FTD Special wouldn't tune on 2m, but
everywhere else was OK.

True, you'd get the full 5 watts. I'm not too fussed about that. If I'm a
weedy signal on 2.5w, then 5 watts makes me a slightly better weedy signal ;-)
The 2600ma cells are 8 squids for 4 these days,so 8 of them isn't gonna
break the bank. I like to keep the 817 in it's case.I really cant be
bothered to faff about with taking the 817 out the case to attach a psu or
get at the battery pack, so I made a small wander lead that I can grab
through the SO239 access hole at the rear of the case - far more friendly.
In my last bulletin I said 2600ma would take 20 hrs, I was wrong, it's
16hrs. The 1300ma supplied pack recommends 8 hours, so my 2600ma cells
would need two burst of 8 hours. Perhaps that why Yaesu gives the 3 options,
6/8/10 hours to cater for custome battery packs.
I've also made special FTD thimble keyer, which can also squeeze in the
back of the of what they call "the rear apron".
It's basically two tin thimbles wired up to a jack plug with a small lead.
One thimble goes on the thumb, the other the forefinger - instant morse key !
You can of course put them on whatever is more convenient for you.
For instance I put one thimble on my left thumb, whilst holding the
thimble between my thumb and forefinger on the right hand - works a treat.
I also find it good to carry some "Walkman" style earphones with me, the
noise and the wind are otherwise too much.
The next ig question is, has anyone found a practical use for the leather case
aerial holder ? It's useless as an aerial holder, too small.
Other than that, the 817's are a darn radio. It's great for using it as a
listening post while out walking or down the beach, and you work a few
contacts with it too.
I know Mr EBT likes to go hiking, maybe we can coax him into taking an FT817,
get him using some RF for a change ;-)
