Yaesu -

I still, in theory, own an FT101 which, due to bad design and lack of
fuses, started to burn down my home. Inexcusable
These valve PA rigs are getting older and older how long before they all
cremate themselves.

One recent FT design suffered from power drop off, It was so common I was
able to identify the rig at 50 miles, and diagnose the problem having
heard the owner wailing about the symptoms. I have never seen one in the
flesh, I just know its fame. Cause, poor production.

A new dual band mobile I tried hooted on air and the case vibrated as it
received its own emissions. "They don't all do it but many do" said the
dealer.

Icom -

They are not all wonderful, the IC706 is poor on VHF, locally MK1 and MK2
suffer from pager breakthrough on 2m.
What a pain, a filter in the power lead half the size of the rig to make
it comply.

Then there is the hand held model with the PLL that went out of lock every
few months, lots of 'em.

The Rolls Royce, the Lambourgini, the Aston Martin the ......
