Right then folks in the interests of packet radio I've decided to
waste more of my time ;-) seeing if I can get Xrouter and Winpack
running in both Win31 and Win9x machines - and I DID IT !!
Although at this stage I don't have any requirements for Xrouter I thought
I'd do some experiments to help raise awareness of Xrouter.
Even or Win9x machines it's a doddle !
XROUTER + WINPACK + WIN9x/Win31 MACHINES.
Assumes you already have your TNC in KISS mode.
1)Install Xrouter to c:\xrouter and use the xrouter.cfg file for an example
provided below.
2)Edit your autoexec.bat to call PZTHOST
3)Edit autoexec.bat path statement to include c:\xrouter in it's path
statement (important!)
4)Edit packet.ini in Winpack to set the hostmode to BPQ.
5)From the G8BPQ Node software pinch bpqdll.dll and bpqcode.386 and place them
in c:\windows\system
6)Reboot PC,you'll see PZTHOST being called and installed, you will also
see a reference to BPQ being found.
7)From within Windows you can run XROUTER.EXE
8)Now start Winpack. If you have followed these instructions you'll be able
to use Winpack with 10 extra terminals and have xrouter as the "front end" of
your system. Also unlike BPQ you DO NOT have to disable any comports.
You can still use xrouter and it's associated PMS facilites IN ADDITION to
Winpacks.
For Win31 installations follow the SAME procedure as above.
Note - you do NOT have to hide/disable comports from Windows like you do
with a full BPQ installation - either on Win31 or Win9x machines !
Here is a sample xrouter.cfg file which assumes a PC with the TNC on COM1
and the speed that your comport talks to your tnc is 2400bd.

USING XROUTER AND A PSION REVO.
Xrouter can be pushed into service on a Psion Revo.
You must first obtain the XTM DOS Emulator (from the inet) and correctly
install the DOS emulator and your favourite DOS.
Assuming all is OK make a directory in the C drive on your Revo (it's
internal RAM) and create c:\windows\system.
Follow the instruction as if installing Xrouter on a Windows machine.
The advantages on the Revo, are that you get APRS messaging, a basic PMS and
a single port node to play with.
